Felicitation of Kalpana Lajmi at Golaghat

Kalpana Lajmi, being regarded as a symbol of platonic love and selfless sacrifice, in whose loving companion the Jajabor who wandered across the whole world without aspiring for a permanent home of his own found a bird’s nest, has received public felicitation in Golaghat as a part of the Xudhakontho Divas celebration being organized by Golaghat Press Club in association with Golaghat Dist. Administration, Golaghat Municipal Board and more than twenty six different organization Kalpana Lajmi accompanied by Monisha Hazarika, today arrived at Golaghat at around 5.30 pm in the evening. She went to Trimurti Udyan and paid floral tribute before the statues of Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Bhupen Da. Later she was taken to the Sammanay Khetra, where more than two hundred organizations felicitated her. The felicitation ceremony was flagged off by showcasing of one hundred and fifty photographs of Bhupen Da in his last journey along with the rendition of “Gaan Ekhon Noi… Gaan Ekhon Soi” a song by Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury on a big screen. Kalpana Lajmi was overwhelmed at the warm reception of the people and expresses her gratitude to them. A chorus was performed at the end in honour of her selfless dedication and love towards Bhupen Da.

A self styled Sergeant Major of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) was arrested from Borjan Lakhibari area of Golaghat District on the night of 4th July. Acting on a tip off, a team of Police and CRPF led byNumal Mahatto, Additional Superintendent of Police arrested the ULFA cadre.
