Award to Ajit Baruah

The Nijara Kavi Sailadhar Rajkhowa Memorial Award committee has selected eminent Assamese Poet and Critic Ajit Baruah for the 2007 Nijara Kavi Sailadhar Rajkhowa Memorial Award.

The award, instituted to keep the memory of Sailadhar Rajkhowa alive and to acknowledge the contribution made in the field of Assamese verse or drama, carries Rs.12,000 in cash and a citation.

The award will be presented to Baruah on December 17.

KMSS’s 12 hr Assam Bandh, total at Raha

The 12 hour Assam Bandh called by the farmers’ body KMSS in protest against the arrest of its leader Akhil Gogoi today is being widely felt across at Raha. The plying of vehicles, both private and public, was off the road. The normal life has been hit as offices, shops and other business enterprises remained closed. Raha HS School shines in HS final

The Students of Raha Higher Secondary school outshone the rest of the other Higher Secondary schools in the district by securing a higher pass percentage in the recently declared Class 12 board exams result conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. The congress supported candidate Piyush Hazarika has won the 82 no Raha LAC seat defeating his rival AIUDF candidate Guneswar Das , the sitting MLA,by a margin of 18,00 thousand votes.
