Meritorious students feted at Kalaigaon
Twelve meritorious students of Kalaigaon have been felicitated at a function organized at KM High School, Balipara near Kalaigaon recently on July 5. The programme was organized by an NGO “Kendukalai”.Three distinguished persons of the district namely Thaneswar Malakar,DC, Udalguri (Dalit Sahitya Academy Award winner 2012); Jagadish Sarkar, MCLA, BTC ( Dr.Ambedkar Award for Social Service, 2010) and Nabin Malla Boro (Sahitya Academy Award for Bodo children literature 2011) were also felicitated on the occasion for their contribution in the field of literature and social service. One minute mourn was observed to mark respect to the departed soul of noted poet late Hiren Bhattachrya prior to the felicitation.
The felicitated meritorious students were- Nandita Borah (scored second highest marks in the district) ,Sasanka Boro,Sikha Rani Medhi,Joyjyoti Barman,Jonjyoti Saharia, Abhijit Deka, Upasana Kakoti,Hirakjyoti Mahanta, Upamanyoo Das, Juriti Saharia, Reksona Basumatari and Hibjur Rahman. Financial assistance were also given to two poor meritorious students namely Pranabjyoti Doley and Mrinal Deka of Kalaigaon College.
Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri attending the ceremony as the chief guest spoke on the role of students in achieving goal in life. On the occasion he said that sometimes preparation for a certain goal could be of great help for other careers. He rquested students to be punctual in study as wel as domestic activities. Jagadish Sarkar, MCLA,BTC; Siba Prasad Sarma,Academic Inspector of Schools, Udalguri and Nabin Malla Boro also spoke a few words on the occasion.It needs mention that a few schools of Kalaigaon have shown satisfactory results in the last HSLC examination. Sanjwrang HS (Bodo medium) with 96.3 percent, Kalaigaon HSS with 90.3 percent ,Pachim Silpota HS with 93.4 percent, Bright Life English School with 81 percent,Bholabari HS with 92.5 percent had been among a few top schools of the area showing satisfactory performance in the HSLC 2012.

One Lawa Majhi (45) was killed by a loner wild elephant at Bormukali near Nonai forest range office in Udalguri district last night at 8 pm.The person was coming home from market while came on the way of two loners.So far 84 people have been killed by wild elephants during last five years in the district against the deaths of 34 wild elephants.
