Sub-standard drainage work at Raha market
The residents of Raha town are fed up with the sub-standard construction works of drains in the Raha bazaar road. The drains which had been a long time demand of the residents of the town, are being constructed under Public Works Department (PWD) at a cost of Rs. 70 lacks.
According to the residents, the drain will collapse within a short period of time because it amply shows the bad quality of work allegedly done by the contractors. “ The contractors are using sub-standard materials and the concerned engineers of PWD department are turning blind eye towards the matter and totally fail to check the illegal practice”, the residents said to this correspondent.
The residents further alleged that the entire construction works of the drains are being done in an unscientific manner and if the works continue like this then there are possibilities of the drains getting damaged or developed cracks soon at several stretches. It is also alleged that a poor quality sand and yellow-coloured bolders ( chip) and a little amount of cement are being used by the contractors on the construction works.
“We have been suffering from water-logging problem on this bazaar road for a long time and felt a great relief when the construction works of the drains got begun. But now we are not happy to see the quality of works as it ensures that water can not go out through these drains”, some businessman of the bazaar road who are witnessing the construction works everyday since it was begun , said.
It is necessary to mention here that this drain was a part of the promised made by Piyush Hazarika, MLA, Raha who assured the residents that he would construct a drain in the Raha bazaar road to permanently mitigate their prolonged water-logging problem on the road if he wins the election. He inaugurated the construction work of the drains on March 11.
The residents of the town are hoping that the PWD authority and the local MLA would conduct a monitoring of the entire construction works so that there is no scope left for sub-standard works.
