Kushal Konwar's son dies at 85 Konwar, the son of legendary freedom fighter Kushal Konwar breathed his last at GMC today. He was 85 at his death and was suffering from Manila. He was survived by his wife and five sons and five daughters. It is worth mentioning that the freedom fighter’s family was financially hard-pressed and was deprived from freedom fighter pension offered by the central government. Way back in 1993 Khagen Konwar had approached the then Prime Minister P.V. Narsinha Rao with a reference from Bhubaneswar Kalita then MP of Rajya Sabha for freedom fighter’s family pension. Though the PM has assured Konwar of financial assistance but due to redtapism the matter was never materialised. Konwar in his last years had even decided to stage a hunger strike at Dispur against the state govt’s apathy towards his family. Meanwhile Golaghat Dist. Administration has sent a team to take over the body of Khagen Konwar from Kamrup Dist. Adminsitration at Nagaon and made preparations for his last rites at Gondh Koroi village at Sarupathar.
