ASDC lambastes Govt for step motherly treatment towards Diam Hasao District

The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC),Dima Hasao Hasao District Committee alleged that the Assam Govt led by Mr Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of Assam, has meted out step motherly treatment to Dima Hasao, which is one of the most hilly and backward districts of Assam and there has been a discrimination against Dima Hasao district, stated a press release issued by the ASDC President Sri Rathindra Thaosen.

To substantiate his claim he stated, as has been the cases--

(i) Funds under various departments has been inadequately allocated to Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) due to which it has been facing financial crisis.

ii) Officers under various departments have not been posted to Dima Hasao district such as the case of DRDA (District Rural Development Agency) department in Dima Hasao district where the office of DRDA department has been without the full-fledged Project Director (P.D.) for a long time and the responsibilities of P.D in the said department has now been entrusted to one Mechanical Engineer of DRDA department.

(iii) Engineering Institute, Medical College, Agricultural University and such other institutes as evident in other districts of Assam have not been provided to Dima Hasao district.

(iv) Dima Hasao Autonomous Council have been deprived of percentage/revenue of the turnover of the hydro-electric power plant under NEEPCO despite the same hydro-electric power plant is located at Umrangso in Dima Hasao district. Moreover, employment opportunities under NEEPCO to the local youths have been lacking. Despite Dima Hasao district having Autonomous Council under Sixth Schedule of Indian Constitution, Dima Hasao district since its inception has been neglected on many fronts and so, it still remains underdeveloped.

No doubt, the wrong policies adopted by successive rulers of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council along with the practices of corruption, nepotism and other malpractices on their part were some of the reasons that development in Dima Hasao district could not make progress as expected. But the main reasons behind such financial crisis in Dima Hasao Autonomous Council and thereby causing economic hardship to the common people of Dima Hasao district is none other than the Govt apathy that has been meted out towards Dima Hasao district and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council been undefended on some pretext or other, the release added.
