Gaijen village burnt

Miscreants burnt down at least 16 houses of Gaijen village under Haflong police Station this morning at about 4 AM on Sunday and killed one 90 years old deft man Thangsiring Daolagupu injuring 3 other persons of the village. According to the villagers, a group of 35 people dressed in black cloth entering the village started indiscriminate firing, and then they set fire to16 houses out of 36 houses of the village. The miscreants also killed domestic animals of the villagers. All the 16 houses reduced to ashes, the villagers could save nothing of their belongings. Police reached the spot immediately after the incident. The incident of house burning happened when the DIG, Southern Range Sri Vinod Kumar is camping here at Haflong following another incident of house burning at Jebra or Choto Longren village on October 14 last.


Meanwhile the Chief Executive Member in charge Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Sri Kalijay Sengyung convened a meeting with all the Apex Bodies of different communities at the conference hall of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council wherein all the leaders suggested not allowing such violence to be continued and to let peace prevail in the district at any cost.

DHD(J) observes 24 hours hunger strike

2 rebels apprehended at NC Hills

In an early morning operation, the Army apprehended two militants from Bara Arkap village in southern Dima Hasao District under Mahur Police Station along with large quantity of arms and ammunition on Thursday. The militants were identified as Thanga Theak of Haflong and J Lalzarza of Bara Arkap, both belonging to the Hmar Peoples Convention (Democratic) militant group.
