IEDs recovered at Pancharatna and Dudhnoi
On Friday, a major tragedy was averted when security forces retrieved one powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the Guwahati bound Guwahati-Puri Express train at Pancharatna Station in Goalpara district. The IED was retrieved during a routine checking exercise by the police and CRPF personnel in coach numner 6 of the Guwahati bound Guwahati-Puri Express train in the Pancharatna Railway Station. A man Kumud Goyagi has been arrested in this connection. Another powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), weighing about three kg was also recovered from a house at Habanggiri-Hatimura village under Dudhnoi police station in the wee hours of Friday during a search operation by the security forces. Dhularam Rabha, the owner of the house was also arrested in this connection.
The house owner Dhularam Rabha was suspected to be a militant of either local extremist groups Rabha Viper Army or the Garo National Liberation Arm, police sources said.
Security forces have launched intensive joint search operations in the district on the tip off that insurgents might resort to subversive activities in the run up to the Independence Day.

Two NDFB cadres were apprehended by security forces and seized arms from their possession in Assam-Meghalaya border near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district in the wee hours of Saturday. A 55 year old person was trampled to death by a wild tusker at a Village near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district in the early morning of Saturday. After damaging the house the elephant attacked Jogesh Nath when he was sleeping at his house along with other family members that night. While others managed to run away, Jogesh Nath failed to move fast and fell victim to the tusker's wrath, villagers said. In a major haul, police officials seized about 30kgs of ganja worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a passenger bus at Dudhnoi in Goalpara district on Friday evening.Four people have been arrested in the context. The heavy consignment of drugs were discovered when Dudhnoi police followed a lead by an unknown source and raided the bus AS01-AC-9722 on the National Highway. A woman was trampled to death by a wild tusker at a village near Dhupdhara in Goalpara district in the early morning of Wednesday. Thieves, who perhaps knew the movements of the members of a family residing at Charaibaha village under Boko police station in Kamrup District, succeeded in stealing cash of Rs. 1 lakh 35 thousand and gold and silver ornament on Tuesday, July 12 at around 10.30 a.m. Mauria Kachari, an employee of forest department of the village, alongwith other members of the family were away at the time, participating in a religious programme organized by themselves at a nearby Shiv Mandir. Several passengers were injured and jewellery and cash worth several thousand rupees was looted in a train dacoity held in the general compartment of Guwahati bound Jhajha Express between Dudhnoi and Rangjuli stations in Goalpara District on the Jogighopa-Kamakhya route in the mid night of last Saturday.
