Free eye check up camp at Bhutiachang


A free eye check up camp was held recently at Bhutiachang on August 3.NRHM,Udalguri organized the camp in association with Don Bosco Institute, Bhutiachang. Dr.Dilip Kumar Hazarika,Joint Director,Health,Udalguri formally inaugurated the camp at 11 AM,where 70 numbers of patients suffering from various eye's disorder had reported for check up.30 numbers of patients were detected to be operated on later. Dr. Rohini Kumar Borkatoki,District Programme Manager of District Blindness Control Society, Udalguri; Dr.Jayanta Kumar Deka,eye specialist attended the patients throughout the day.The doctors were assisted by one GNM,two opthalmic assistants and others.The whole camp was supervised by Chanda Singh,DME,Udalguri. According to attending doctors,the selected 30 patients,who had been suffering from acute cataract will undergo cataract surgery free of cost at Vision Hospital,Athgaon,Guwahati after 15 days. Other examinations like blood pressure check up,blood sugar test etc were also done free in the camp.


Talking to media persons,Dr.Borkatoki said that cataract cases had been found to be very high in tea garden areas including younger people of the age group of ten onwards. The doctors said that poor nutrition and metabolic disorder leading to deficiency of vitamin A, could have been the causes of cataract cases among young people. Co organizer of the camp,James Narzari, Principal,Don Bosco Institute,Bhutiachang thanked NRHM, Udalguri for organizing the eye check up camp at Bhutiachang considered to be one of the most backward places in Bhergaon Sub-division.The students of the Don Bosco Institute offered full cooperation for the success of the camp.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
