New President selected for Barpeta District Xahita Xabha

Dr. Basanta Kr. Sarma was elected as the president and Dr.Sahidul Islam as the vice president and Kuldhar Deka as the Secretary of Barpeta District Xahitya xabha at the election on May 23. Among the 87, a total of 44 committees took part in the election.

11 canddidates of Barpeta Lok sabha constituency lost the earnest money

In no 6 Barpeta Lok sabha constituency, congress candidate Ismile Hussain defeated his nearest rival BJP supported AGP candidate Bhupen Roy in a margin of 30,429 votes and confirmed his victory. On the other hand, AUDF candidate Abdus Samad Ahmed obtained 216083 votes and is in third position. On the contrary Durgeswar Deka, CPI(M) candidate obtained 36045 votes and is in fourth position. Along with the rest of the country the counting of Barpeta Loksabha election also completed peacefully today. The congress candidate Ismile Hussain defeated his nearest rival BJP supported AGP candidate Bhupen Roy in the 10 LAc's of Barpeta HPC. Vandalisation of LICI office condemned

The vandalism of Jorhat Divisional Office of LICI and atrocities on the employees by the security forces yesterday on a trivial plea has been condemned by the insurance fraternity here at Barpeta. Nabajit Das, Lecturer in Zoology, B.H.college, Howly participated in the 10th students' conference on conservation sciences held in Cambridge University on March 24 to 26 and presented a paper on "Bengal Slowlories", the only nocturnal primate species of North-East India. He also successfully completed a one month internship programme at Oxford Brookes University,Oxford from March 27/09 to April 25/09.Mr. Nabajit Das is an active member of Primate Research Centre NE India and at present doing PHD on Bengal Slowlories under the guidance of Prof. P.C. Bhattacharjee, Dept of zoology, Guwahati University.He is the eldest son of Ghanasyam Das and Bhagya Das of Palangdihati, Barpeta .

Gutkha found in soft drinks bottle

Erratic power supply hits Barpeta

The people of Barpeta have been suffering tremendously for the erratic supply of electricity in the last few days. The supply is disrupted without any prior notice and this continues for a long period of time. The worst sufferers are the students community, industries, educational institutions etc.

Illegal log truck seized at Barpeta

Barpeta police seized one loaded truck log at Nagaon, about 10 km away from the town last night at about 2 pm. According to report said, the police visited various places of Barpeta last night and when they reached near Nagaon they found the truck on the road and they seized truck. The driver of the truck Rezzak Ali informed that these logs are coming from Nuntola of Saorbhog (to Bahari Saw mill) and the owner of this is Banjit Das of Barpeta. The cost of seized log is about Rs.1 lakh.

Indifference of the government delaying flood erosion prevention project

The people of Bahari village and nearby areas like Gomaphulbari, Bhogerpar, Pajarbhanga etc. villages of Barpeta district enraged at the indifference attitude of the Water Resource department as they have been suffering a lot due to the erosion caused by the Brahmaputra river and have to live a uncertain lives.
