Bobby Singh clinches Gold
Bobby Singh of Assam who represented India in the eighth South Asian Men’s Bodybuilding Championship in Thimphu, Bhutan has clinched gold in the above 80 kg category.
Bobby Singh, an NF Railway employee, though hails from Manipur, represented Assam in several tournaments during the last few years.
Besides clinching the Gold, Singh was also adjudged the best body builder of the tourney with the crown Mr South Asia where musclemen from several South Asian countries including Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka took part. Afghanistan was the best team while Pakistan was placed in the second and India had to be satisfied with the third place.
After achieving this, the young muscleman is now hoping to give his best performance in the forthcoming Asian Bodybuilding Championship scheduled to be held in the Thai capital Bangkok in the second half of the year.
“It always feels good to see the flag of my country fly high and the feeling is especial if it happens to be in a foreign land. I’m happy with my performance but would have much happier had we finished at the top of the tally. I’m more confident now and looking forward for the next tournaments,” said an elated Bobby, who headed for Darjeeling from Thimphu, where the tournament took place from June 2.
Assam Bodybuilders and Fitness Association general secretary Bhabajyoti Goswami congratulated the body builder at his success at the international level.
“We congratulate Bobby for his success at the championship where body builders from several top South Asian countries participated. The boy always worked hard and I think he got his due,” Goswami said expressing his happiness.
“His success would definitively motivate the other body builders of the state,” he further added.
