Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasad Bantha by ABSU

The Bodo medium was introduced on 18th May 1963 in Assam. It was in 1976 the Bodo medium Students were lucky to appear for the Secondary Examination. A good number of students have passed out since then. Many intellectuals and people working in different fields have also studied in Bodo medium. There are about 20 lakhs Bodo population in Assam of which 4 lakh are students in Bodo medium studying in lower primary, upper primary and high schools in Bodo medium. There are only 27 Bodo medium provincialised high schools in Assam which do have sufficient teachers and no infrastructure for the students. Some of these schools have no teachers who can teach science and mathematics.


Though the Right to education Act has been passed under article 46 where it is mentioned that the Scheduled tribes and Scheduled Castes people should get free education, the Government of Assam has ignored and neglected the Bodo medium education.

Due to poor infrastructure less number of students could get good marks in the final examination at secondary level. The number of 1st division in Bodo mediums were 66 in 2006, 58 in 2007, 101 in 2008, 74 in 2009, 141 in 2010 and it is 137 in 2011. To encourage students and giving them guidance and counselling, ABSU has started ‘Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasad Bantha’, which is an award to the toppers from Bodo medium students. This year the award was conferred on 4th June at Amjonga High School’s field near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district of Assam. Speaking on the occasion ABSU president Pramod Bodo said that Government of Assam do not show their interest to know why the results of the Bodo medium schools is worst and hence they fell the necessity to develop the schools and as a result the pass percentage of the Bodo medium students is very low.


The award ceremony was attended by Gautam Baruah, director of IIT Guwahati, Dr Kameswar Brahma, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha. Mr Rupjyoti Karjee Brahma who cleared civil service examination this year also felicitated on the occasion as he cleared it after a long gap amongst Bodo community.

Congratulations to the achievers . To flourish any language it has to be baked by readable literature. If you have more books in different interesting subjects than automatically Bodo language will develop . It is very sad that Bodos do not have a good newspaper till date. Because the poor students living in the interiors of Bodoland, they can not afford to buy books, for them newspaper is the only source of gathering knowledge.
