ThaneswarHazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaperdied on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.
Notededucationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.
Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

An uneasy situation prevailed in Jorhat during a Congress poll rally on Saturday.Local residents in large number assaulted a traffic policeman after a road mishap near the Bhugdoi bridge at a stone’s throw distance from the poll rally attended by APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita. The local residents further threatened to eliminate the ruling party before they were dispersed by police.

BJP President Sarbananda Sonowal filed his nomination papers in Lakhimpur on Friday. Thousands of his supporters took out a huge rally in Lakhimpur to welcome Sonowal to the Deputy Commissioner’s office where the state BJP president submitted his papers before the returning officer. Sonowal filed his nomination in the afternoon hours after his Congress rival Uniin minister Ranee Narah filed her nomination papers.
