ThaneswarHazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaperdied on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.
Notededucationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.
Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

Kamakhya Prasad Tasa on Friday filed his nomination papers as BJP candidate in Jorhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Accompanied by his senior party leaders, Tasa arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jorhat where he submitted his nomination papers before the returning officer at 12 in the noon. Congress candidate BK Handique, CPI candidate Drupad Buragohain, AGP candidate Pradeep Hazarika and AAP candidate Manoram Gogoi have already filed their nomination papers.The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. The polling will take place on April 7.
Union minister Ranee Narah filed nomination papers as Congress candidate in Lakhimpur on Friday.Accompanied by thousands of party workers, the Union minister arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lakhimpur and submitted her nomination papers before the returning officer at 11 in the morning.
Yet another AGP leader is likely to join BJP. He is none other than Padma Hazarika who is yet to make up his mind.Hazarika, who was suspended from the party for anomalies in the Rajya Sabha voting last month, has received formal proposal from the party. Over 50 people have fallen ill after consuming grams at a religious function in Nagaon district on Thursday.They, mostly, complained of stomach ache and started vomiting hours after they consumed Prasad of grams and pulse at a religious function organized at a house in Chapormukh area on Thursday. After a brief lull, miscreants are back in action in BTAD. A woman sustained serious injury when unidentified miscreants fired upon her on Thursday.The incident took place at Gossaigaon Tiniali when three unidentified youths fired upon a women as she was sitting at her veranda at around 7 in the evening.Then they vanished from the spot before the arrival of policemen who are fanning out in the area to nab the culprit.Identified as Kamala Goala, the injured woman was immediately rushed to the hospital.
