Indigenous Muslim body decry Congress’ Election Manifesto

In a bid to confirm discontentment, state wide representative body of the indigenous Muslims the All Assam Goria-Moria-Desi Jatiya Parishad again came heavily on the Congress. At a Press Conference in Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Hall in Guwahati on May 29 the AAGMDJP General Secretary Hafizul Ahmed said that during the 2 term governance of the Congress the voice of the constituent communities of the indigenous Muslim volume of Assam have been blatantly overlooked.

He cited veterans Syeda Anwara Taimur, Mâhdi Alam Bora and others of being suppressed and sidelined despite years of constancy by the Tarun Gogoi led BPPF Government. Furthermore, the forthcoming Assembly Election Manifesto of the Congress made no mentions to attend the apathy faced by the indigenous Muslim communities. “This is the reason why we express our grievous ingratitude and appeal to do all to oust the Congress”, said Rashid Ahmed Assistant General Secretary AAGMDJP. A Congress insider on request of anonymity said that the Congress is passive about addressing issues of the indigenous Muslim communities raised by the representative bodies from time to time.

On being asked if indigenous Muslim votes are a factor for the nearing Assembly Elections Hafizul Ahmed said that indigenous Muslim votes are an underrated factor. It is the linguistic Muslim Minority votes which cumulatively weigh and now with the representation of several indigenous Muslim candidates by the All India United Democratic Front the poll war of the approaching Assembly Elections is worth a watch. Without Constitutional Recognition and Safeguard of the indigenous Muslim communities no programs for all sphere development can be strategized. It is only after when Constitutional Recognition and Safeguard has been accorded that proper electoral representation of the indigenous Muslim communities can be furthered in a proper manner he stated.

In a striking attempt this poll season the Asom Gana Parishad projected Moidul Islam Bora, Nurul Hussain and Enamul Haq thereby harboring indigenous Muslim representation, the Bharatiya Janata Party offered 1 and the All India United Democratic Front finalized its candidature listing about 10 indigenous Muslims.

We shall extend our support base to enable the indigenous Muslim candidates succeed vis-à-vis the Congress which found no one suitable the Press Brief concluded.
