The North East Youth Festival in Majuli concluded on Sunday after the state government was slammed for lack of cooperation.
The Union ministers who graced on the occasion came down heavily on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his government alleging that they did not want the event to take place.
“I find it quite strange to have seen that not even a single minister or MLA attended the regional event. It is unfortunate,” said Union minister Babul Supriyo.
Other ministers and MPs were disappointed over the lack of state government’s support to the youth event which took place at the initiative of Union sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal who hails from the state.
Congress leaders in Majuli blamed it all on the sports minister alleging that Sonowal has politicizing the colourful event. They told Assam Times that Sonowal along with the BJP MPs from the state have made three days event a political platform.
“We are not allowed to play any role. It was his role and everything was finalised at Sonowal’s own interest,” said a Congress leader.
Apart from Assam and Nagaland governor PB Acharya, Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain, his Guwahati and Jorhat counterparts Bijoya Chakravartty and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa attended the festival.
