voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Kalaigaon tense

At least ten people sustained injury, three of them seriously at a group clash in Udalguri district on Thursday.The incident took place in Kolaigaon where a section of people assaulted two persons alleging involvement in a number of cattle theft cases.Another section of people appeared in the scene to counter the attack saying that the duo were innocent. A four wheeler and a bike were set on fire at the height of the clash.Tension started mounting when police tried to disperse the mob by blankfiring. District administration told Assam Times that the situation is under control.   

Elephants crushed to death

Speeding train claimed two more elephants in Jorhat district sending shockwaves among the animal lovers on Thursday.The incident took place at Nakochari near Mariani station where the Intercity Express rammed into the two animals from the Gibon wild life sanctuary tried to cross the railway tracks on Thursday wee hours.Animal lovers thronged the spot and removed the carcasses with tearful eyes. These bizarre incidents are not new. In the past speeding trains crushed to death several elephants on the railway tracks.    

2 poachers killed in Kaziranga

Forest guards claimed to have killed two poachers at an encounter in Kaziranga on Thursday. Three others are believed to have escaped the encounter that struck the Burapahar range of the abode of one horn rhino.According to information, forest guards on duty spotted a group of five poachers on Thursday wee hours where the gunbattle took place.Two poachers were killed on the spot. Three others managed to flee from the spot. Forest guards recovered a rifle along with some ammunition from the spot.

Sea of humanity in Sivasagar

Sivasagar breaks into a sea of humanity as the Mahashivratri gets underway on Thursday.Over two lakh with devotees and tourists are arriving in this historic town to make glimpse of the three day long festival.The district administration is taking brisk step to make the annual festival a success. The Shivratri exhibition seems to have pulled huge crowds this year.Cultural programmes are lined up on the occasion.  

In grip of Shivratri festivity

Devotees are thronging in thousands at the Shiva temples across the state for puja offering to the Lord on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Thursday.From early this morning, devotees in the historic Umananda temple are waiting in a huge queue to attend the festival in the tiny island.Huge gatherings are also seen in Ulubari, Navagraha along with other temples in Guwahati.

Rhino loses battle for life

A full grown rhino lost his battle with life 12 hours after he was caught in deep mud in Kaziranga.The one horn animal was found dead on Thursday wee hours at a pit in Kohora range of the world heritage site. The rhino was caught in the mud on Wednesday morning. But strange are the ways of the forest department. The heavily manned department expressed utter helplessness citing lack of nfrascture to rescue the animal from the jaws of death.Veterinary doctors visited the animal. But only to be washed their hands off by pushing an injection.

Saikia not to join BJP

Veteran actor Pranjal Saikia is not joining. Sources told Assam Times that the report was fabricated.According to sources, the actor will not join any political party.The news was spreading hours after Biju Phukan agreed to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Trinamool Congress.

The heavily manned department has yet to procure infrascture to rescue the animal from the jaws of death.Veterinary doctors visited the animal. But only to be washed their hands off by pushing an injection.Animal lovers have warned the authorities of dire consequences if the pride of Assam is not rescued safely.    

Tension in Lekhapani

Tension seems to have escalated in Lakhapani area in Tinsukia district after five policemen sustained injury in mob attack.Police resorted to blank fire to disperse an irate mob who pelted stones at the Lekhapani police station.Officer in charge of the police station along with five other were injured in mob attack when the officials were talking to a group of KMSS protestors to deal with an untoward incident on Tuesday.Senior police officials told reporters that they have been investigating the case and that the culprit of the episode would get exemplary punishment.

Actor to join BJP!

Veteran actor Pranjal Saikia is all set to join BJP a day after Biju Phukan agreed to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Trinamool Congress.Saikia is lilely to join the saffron party at a function in Guwahati on Thursday in presence of state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal.Senior journalist Adip Kr Phukan is also set to join the party in the same brief function. Phukan was set to join the party during Narendra Modi’s rally in Khanapara. But that has not aappend due to tight schedule of the prime ministerial candidate.
