voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

BJP fields Englang from Diphu

Finally BJP has made up its mind. The Opposition party has announced the name of Joiram Englang as the candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Diphu seat. Food poisoning in Chaparmukh

Over 50 people have fallen ill after consuming grams at a religious function in Nagaon district on Thursday.They, mostly, complained of stomach ache and started vomiting hours after they consumed Prasad of grams and pulse at a religious function organized at a house in Chapormukh area on Thursday. Then they were rushed to the Nagaon Civil Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.   

NDFB-S militant arrested

Security forces seem to have stepped up operation to flush out insurgent elements from Guwahati in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.Police and CRPF jawans held a NDFB-S militant during a search operation in the city on Friday.The militant was captured at a sudden raid conducted at a hotel in Panbazar on Friday wee hours. Police claimed to have seized a made in America pistol along with a magazine from his possession.      

Armed youths held

In a stepped up operations against miscreants, security forces captured three armed youths in the outskirt of Guwahati on Friday.The three armed youths who are believed to be the NDFB-S linkmen were held in Khetri in the wee hours. Police interrogation is going on.

Heavyweights to file nominations

Several political heavyweights are set to file their nomination papers on the last day on Friday for the first phase of Lok Sabha poll slated for April 7.They include BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal and his Congress counterpart Ranee Narah in Lakhimpur. Union minister and Congress candidate Pawan Singh Ghatowar is also set to file nomination papers on Friday in Dibrugarh.They are apart from Mani Kumar Subba, the Congress leader who will file nomination to contest as independent candidate in Tezpur.

Tezpur Congress leader Mani Kumar Subba is all set to file nominations as an independent candidate on Friday. AIUDF sources told Assam Times that Subba will get support of AIUDF workers in some reliable pockets.The former Congress MP from Tezpur on Thursday took out a huge rally in Joimoti pothar where his supporters in large number pledged to ensure his victory in his upcoming polls.

Women sustains bullet injury

After a brief lull, miscreants are back in action in BTAD. A woman sustained serious injury when unidentified miscreants fired upon her on Thursday.The incident took place at Gossaigaon Tiniali when three unidentified youths fired upon a women as she was sitting at her veranda at around 7 in the evening.Then they vanished from the spot before the arrival of policemen who are fanning out in the area to nab the culprit.Identified as Kamala Goala, the injured woman was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Body found near rail track

An uneasy calm prevails in Kokrajhar following the recovery of a body in Chechapani on Thursday.Local residents spotted the body beside the railway track and informed it to police in the morning. The body with jeans pant, jacket was sent for post mortem. The legs bore cut marks. The youth was believed to have been thrown out of a moving trainin between Kokrajhar-Fakiragram station.

Respite for Padma!

AGP is likely to withdraw suspension against Padma Hazarika. But the partymen in Sootea have left it on the MLA.Sources told Assam Times that the party, of late, has softened its stand on the party legislator a months after the leadership suspended Hazarika for refusing to toe on the party line in the Rajya Sabha polls.The party’s steering committee will meet on Saturday at its headquarters in Ambari where the leadership is expected to take a final decision.On the other hand, his supporters have left the entire issue only on him.       

We need change: Moosahary

Kokrajhar Trinamool Congress Ranjeet Sekhar Moosahary said that the people want change.Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar in the sidelines of a poll meeting, the former Meghalaya Governor said that BPF won’t be a factor in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.He said that he was confident of victory adding that only TMC would be able to bring about a change in the country.
