voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Amid tight security Akhil Gogoi was produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate in Guwahati on Wednesday nearly 20 days after he was arrested in connection with the self immolation case.Police arrested three KMSS activists for staging dharna at the CJM court premises when the KMSS president was brought to the court.The CJM court remanded Gogoi to judicial custody after the end of the 5 days police custody.  
A two year old child died on Wednesday two days after his father inflicted torture on him sending shockwaves across the state.Identified as Ripunjay Nath, the child died early in the morning at GNRC where he has been battling for life after his father inflicted physical on him at a coconut three amid a quarrel with his wife in Changsari in the outskirt of Guwahati.His mother is also undergoing treatment at the GNRC hospital.The incident took place when the husband clashed with his wife and inflicted torture on the two year old where an irate mob burnt down his house.A women neighbor also died when police resorted to firing to disperse the angry mob.
Two full grown rhinos seem to have been unleashing no less terror in Gohpur after they strayed out of Kaziranga on Wednesday.Villagers in Buroimukh area spotted the rhinos at a open paddy field early in the morning. Forest officials arrived in the spot after the panic stricken villagers informed the department.Efforts are on to chase away the animals.  
The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday is expected to hear the anticipatory bail petition of Kamal Medhi who is absconding after police registered case against in connection with the recent self immolation case.Earlier, the Court of chief judicial magistrate refused bail to the KMSS general secretary and his counsel moved the high court which agreed to hear the plea on Wednesday.  Dharjya Konwar, publicity secretary, KMSS, however was granted interim bail till Wednesday while the interim bail of Amarjyoti Bezbaruah was made absolute by the Court.

After weeks of will-it-wont-it, AICC has announced Kirip Chaliah as the candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Mongoldoi.The confirmation came from AICC on Tuesday evening much to a major relief for the former MP from Guwahati.The development took place hours after former Congress MP Madhab Rajbanshi joined the Asom Gana Parishad.Notably, Rajbanshi who is a strong Koch Rajbanshi leader was put out of the race for Congress ticket to contest from Mongoldoi constituency. Two other contenders were Pradyut Bhuyan and Pranjeet Chaudhury.
BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary lambasted AGP leadership for avoiding a pact between the parties to corner Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on his arrival from New Delhi, the former AGP president blamed it all on the autocratic style of functionings by the leadership during the last couple of years.“I am disappointed. AGP MLA from Sootea Padma Hazarika is likely to quit the party a month after he was suspended for refusing to toe on the party line in the Rajya Sabha polls.Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Hazarika said that his partymen have been asking him to quit AGP. “But formal decision has yet to be taken. Let them know me their decision soon,,” said Hazarika.Hazarika further said that he won’t appeal to the party leadership to forget his suspension.On the other hand, he made it plain and simple that he won’t help Joseph Toppo win in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Recently, party leadership indirectly asked Hazarika to apply for withdrawal of suspension against him.       
The Morigaon district administration has ordered a magisterial probe into the death of a minor boy in police firing at Kordoibeel area on Tuesday.Deputy commissioner issued the order when local residents in large number thronged the Morigaon police station campus in protest against the firing where Biswajeet Bordoloi was killed.The incident took place when police resorted to firing to deal with a group clash at a water body in Tetelia.
