voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Tension is escalating in Karbi Anglong when suspected miscreants from Nagaland unleashed a reign of terror at a village on Friday.The incident took place when a group armed Naga youths arrived in Dikoi village and started blank firing to terrorize the villagers. Security forces arrived in the spot. But  by then, they disappeared from the village. The blank firing took place hours after police arrested seven Naga persons for illegal occupying in the land beyond their territory.
Congress party is likely to take action against Mani Kumar Subba, who has filed nomination papers to independently contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Tezpur.Talking to reporters, APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita said that nobody is above the party rules and regulations. Mani Kumar Subba filed his nomination papers to contest as independent candidate in Tezpur in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on Friday.Accompanied by thousands of his supporters, the three time Congress MP arrived at the Sonitpur Deputy Commmissioner’s office in Tezpur at 12 in the noon.At around 12-30 in the afternoon, Subba accompanied by his 5 filed nomination papers before the returning officer. Talking to reporters, Subba said that his victory is imminent and that the voters would always remember him for his service during the last 20 years.  Notably, a section AIUDF workers are believed to have supported him.    
Former MP Dr Arun Sarma filed his nomination papers in Nagaon as AGP candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Koliabor on Friday.Dr Sarma, the three time MP of the party was taken to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Nagaon at a huge procession led by president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Gunin Hazarika, Lachit Bordoloi and Keshab Mahanta where he filed his nomination papers before the returning officer at 12-30 in the afternoon. The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. The polling will take place on April 7.
DoNER minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar filed his nomination papers as Congress candidate in Dibrugarh on Friday.Accompanied by APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita, MLAs Jibantata Ghaotwar, Raju Sahu and Sushanta Buragohain, Ghaotwar arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Dibrugarh and filed the nomination papers before the returning officer at 12 noon.Before that thousands of party workers took Ghatowar at a huge procession in Dibrugarh town in the morning. his supporters told Assam Times that victory of Ghatowar only requires a formal announcement.    The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. Kamakhya Prasad Tasa on Friday filed his nomination papers as BJP candidate in Jorhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Accompanied by his senior party leaders, Tasa arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jorhat where he submitted his nomination papers before the returning officer at 12 in the noon.    Congress candidate BK Handique, CPI candidate Drupad Buragohain, AGP candidate Pradeep Hazarika and AAP candidate Manoram Gogoi have already filed their nomination papers.The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. The polling will take place on April 7.
Union minister Ranee Narah filed nomination papers as Congress candidate in Lakhimpur on Friday.Accompanied by thousands of party workers, the Union minister arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lakhimpur and submitted her nomination papers before the returning officer at 11 in the morning.    
Yet another AGP leader is likely to join BJP. He is none other than Padma Hazarika who is yet to make up his mind.Hazarika, who was suspended from the party for anomalies in the Rajya Sabha voting last month, has received formal proposal from the party. BJP legislator Ranjit Dutta on Friday morning met the Sootea MLA where the proposal was conveyed.Very recently, his supporters have Hazarika the free hand to join wherever he likes. But of late, the AGP leadership have hint of withdrawing the suspension order against him.      
Finally BJP has made up its mind. The Opposition party has announced the name of Joiram Englang as the candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Diphu seat. The announcement came from New Delhi on Friday morning nearly a week after the Congress leader in Karbi Anglong joined BJP.England left Congress after the ruling party announced the name of Biren Singh Engleng as the candidate for Diphu.
Over 50 people have fallen ill after consuming grams at a religious function in Nagaon district on Thursday.They, mostly, complained of stomach ache and started vomiting hours after they consumed Prasad of grams and pulse at a religious function organized at a house in Chapormukh area on Thursday. Then they were rushed to the Nagaon Civil Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
