voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

GUWAHATI: ULFA(I) has released a video opposing the 69th  nationwide Republic Day celebrations slated for Friday. Apart from a speech explaining the reasons behind the futile celebration of the red letter day, the video displays a group of rebels setting afire the national tricolor.  ULFA(I) along with other major north eastern rebel outfits are enforcing a 24 hour general strike opposing the Republic Day on Friday. The rebels in the video have reiterated the appeal to boycott the celebration saying that for decades the ruling clique in the distant Delhi has been depriving the north eastern region and its dumb millions of their rights with colonial suppression.  

Search operation atop Mayodiya

ITANAGAR: Police and SDRF men have intensified the operation in search of the people who have been remaining clueless after the vehicle carrying them to Mayodia in Arunachal Pradesh slipped into a steep gorge on Wednesday. Nearly two dozen police and SDRF personnel have been deployed in the operation which resumed in the morning. Three bodies are believed to have been spotted which five others are expected to be recovered by this afternoon.  The mishap took place in the morning on Wednesday where all the eleven people on tour from Doom dooma to Mayodiya in the Lower Dibang valley district of Arunahal Pradesh. ULFA-I owns up attack on army

GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Asom(I) has owned up the responsibilities of the attack on army in Namsai where a jawan was killed on Wednesday. In a statement, the rebel outfit's military head Paresh Barua confirmed that they launched the attack on the army troop with grenade explosion in the morning. Security forces are stepping up a combing operation in the entire area in search of the rebels who exploded the grenade. The incident took place in the morning where the rebels exploded the powerful grenade on the road near Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh as the troops crossed the area in the run up to the Republic Day on Friday.

Tourists killed in road mishap

TINSUKIA: At least seven people were feared dead and five others sustained injury when the vehicle carrying them slipped into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The incident took place near the tourists spot of Mayodia at around 12.00. Local residents told www.assamtimes.org that the vehicle where 15 people were travelling to the tourists spot in Lower Dibang Valley district fell into the steep gorge as it cleared the passage for another vehicle which from the opposite direction. NAMRUP: AJYCP has deeply vowed to go all out against ghutka to save the upcoming generation from the impending generation. Namrup seized a huge heap of ghukta from two wholesale shops and burnt down in Namrup on Wednesday. Army jawan killed in ULFA-I attack

ITANAGAR: An army jawan died when suspected ULFA-I rebels exploded a powerful bomb in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The rebel attack took place in the morning near Namsai bordering Tinsukia ditrict in Assam when the army troop on patrolling duty in the run up to the Republic Day was travelling on two vehicles.   As the two vehilces reached the area the powerful IED planted on the middle of the National Highway exploded leaving the jawan dead. ITANAGAR: Amid a massive security arrangement in the run up to the Republic Day, unidentified rebels exploded a powerful bomb targetting an army troop on Wednesday.The incident took place near Namsai where the rebels who were believed to have been hiding in the roadside lobbed a powerful IED at an army troop who were moving on the vital road.
