Udalguri DC pleads more powers to administration in BTC area


The district administrations in all the four districts in BTC area have been facing serious set backs due to the curtailment of most of the powers generally enjoyed by other Deputy Commissioners of the country. Most of the powers of the DCs had been transferred directly to BTC authority under sixth schedule of the constitution,there by making the DCs just an administrate heads without power. The DC s cannot control any officers serving under him in BTC districts as they had to look after law and order only.The newly posted Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district, Thaneswar Malakar,who has also been known as a writer said so in a crowded meeting at sub-divisional HQ Bhergaon on December 20. The meeting was organized on the occasion of distribution of grant-in-aids to the beneficiaries. The meeting was attended by Rihon Daimari, Minister, PHE, Assam; MLAs, BTC EMs, MCLAs, high ranking officials and media personals. Presiding over the meeting the DC also said that he would try his best to solve all the problems of the people of the district. He requested the BTC authority to grant normal powers to DC s serving in BTC so as to control government officials, who had been evading their duties in the pretext of engagement with BTC authority at Kokrajhar. According to him the departmental heads may report directly to Kokrajhar without informing the DC. He suggested that the DCs must be made aware of the movement of all departmental heads.


MP Sarma, Project Director,DRDA,Udalguri while addressing the people stressed the need for speedy development of seven lakhs sixty four thousand people living in the district. Maheswar Boro, MLA, Kalaigaon and Chairman of DRDA, Udalguri declared that whatever could not have been achieved in the last fifty years were made possible in just five years during Cong-BPF rule. In his concluding speech as the chief guest, Minister Rihon Daimari remarked that a wave of change had been noticed in BTC; but at the same time he requested people not to put undue pressure on the government officers and contractors by demanding donations,which he said would slow down the process of development and welfare of the people.The Minister declared that the construction of the remaining portion of the MB road (declared as state highway )from Kalaigaon to Bhutiachang would be completed in the coming year with an amount of rupees 22 crore.


The meeting was also addressed by Lwmsrao Daimari, EM,BTC. Distinguished guests namely Jagadish Sarkar, Rati Ram Boro both BTC MCLAs, Debajyoti Dutta, ADC, Bhergaon, all the Circle Officers and BDOs attended the meeting. More than three thousand people were present in the meeting. DN Hazarika, Circle Officer, Harisinga Revenue Circle,Tangla offered the vote of thanks at the end before the grant-in-aids were distributed (14 govt departments) to beneficiaries by the minister.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
