Second convocation of NERIST on August 4


The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. I have been lucky to have worked with our former President very closely

Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday tabled state budget for 2010-11 announcing a slew of measures to the voters a year ahead of the assembly polls. The budget has a huge Rs3464.46 crore deficit figure but is teeming with populist measures. Gogoi, who also holds the finance portfolio said the state's rate of growth touches 6 per cent. He said the government will set up a machinary to regulate the market which he said will help them rein in priceline. This is Gogoi's last full fledged budget in his second term. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi is all set to table the state budget for 2010-11 just a shortwhile from now. This will be his last full fledge one in his second term. According to sources, to be tabled by Gogoi, who hold the finance portfolio, the budget has no fresh proposal for tax and there is no harsh measure in it in view of the next assembly polls.
Despite hectic political confabulation, the ruling Congress and the opposition parties have yet to finalise candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls for 2 seats from Assam. The last date for filing of nomination falls on Tuesday for the poll slated for March 26. The opposition lacks consensus on candidate. AGP seeks BJP support to field it's own candidate. The saffron party pins hope on AGP support citing an old pact. The impasse would be over by Monday.
