Book Fair science exhibition at Udalguri

In order to make book reading a habit and to create scientific temperament among the minds of the children of the district preparation for a grand Book Fair and science has been completed. According to P.K.Mahanta, ADC Udalguri and chairman of the organisation committee the programme would be inaugurated on March 13 afternoon and would continue till March 16. Dr. SS Meenakshi Sundaram, DC Udalguri told this correspondent that the four days book fair and science exhibition would focus on creative exposure of hidden talents of the children of the district in the field of science and technology, art, culture etc. The child scientists of the district would be given an opportunity to interact with the leading scientists of the state like Dr. SK Choudhuri, Director of ASTEC; Dr. Dinesh Goswami; Dr. RK Barman, Head of science & Technology, ASTEC; and Joydeep Barua, Head of Environment Division of ASTEC. All Assam basis open quiz competition will also be arranged. Other district level competitions like extempore speech, spot painting, quiz, spot essay, recitation will also be arranged. Seminars on “Brahmaputra, the future of Assam”; the “Global climate change, its impact on Assam” also will be held during the event.


The star attraction will be the science exhibition where child scientists from each schools of the district will exhibit various innovative science models. Sky observation programme on March 14 and 15 has been also arranged in association with Guwahati Planetarium and Pragjyotish Armature Astromer’s Association,Guwahati where children and people of the district will have a chance to observe planets, stars, and solar system with sophisticated telescopes. In the book fair section, leading publishers of the country including publishers from Assam will take part.
A high level reception has been formed with Rihan Daimari, Minister, PHE Assam as the chief patron, all MLAs and Ems of BTAD as patrons DC, Udalguri as the chairman, ADC PK Mahanta as the secretary.


21 sub-committees had also been formed with top level administration officers of the district. It has been known that WWF (India) ASTEC, Agriculture, AMTRON etc. will also demonstrate their activities in the programme. Dr. SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri told the media persons that it was time to divert the attention of the young people from violence to creative activities like book reading, study of nature and innovative science experiments in school level. He said that the programme will focus on creative exposure of hidden talents of the children of the district. The programme would provide opportunity for all the children of the district to show off their talents in their respective fields.The programme will start 0n February 13 with the registration of child scientists and book publishers.


The book fair and science exhibition will be inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Sekhar Musahari on February 14 while ‘Banti Prajalan’ will be performed by noted writer Mamoni Raisom Goswami. Various seminars will also be arranged on the occasion where noted journalists like Subir Bhowmik of BBC, ’; noted scientists like Dr. SK Choudhuri, Director of ASTEC, Assam; Dr. RK Barman, Dr. Dinesh Goswami and Joydeep Barua of ASTEC etc will take part. Rongbong Terang, president Assam Sahitya Sabha will attend the concluding session on March 16. Grand cultural evenings will be held in all the three days in the evening where Dipak Sarma of International famed florist, Ashim Karzee, Krishmoni Nath, Hiranya Deka (comedian), Sangeeta Borthakur, Nishita Goswami, Joy Chakravorty of Indian Idol fame, singer Dikhu and Tarali Sarma etc will perform.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
