More agriculture production is the key agenda
The agriculture officers of Assam have decided to render more intensive extension service among the farmers to increase agriculture production in the State. In this context, altogether 195 agriculture officers coming from all the district of Assam participated in the first biennial general conference of Assam Agricultural Officers Association (AAOA) held on September 13 and 14 at the Krishi Niwas, Directorate of Agriculture and discussed thoroughly about the current agricultural scenario of Assam , specially with reference to the drought like situation. They have decided to take necessary action to increase area and production during forthcoming Rabi season. Regarding management of drought like situation in Assam with reference to agri-horticultural crops, the AAOA has organized a workshop along with the biennial general conference, where experts like Dr. Tapan Dutta, Agriculture Advisor to the Chief Minister of Assam, Deva Kanta Handique, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, Borjhar; Dr. Manash Pratim Goswami, Asstt. Executive Engineer (Agri.), Assam; Dr. Ashok Bora, Professor, Gauhati University; Dr. Nalin Mohan, Retd. Chief Scientist, Assam Agricultural University, Dr. Hemendra Ch. Bhattacharya, Chief Scientist, RARS, Gossaigaon & Dr. Banshidhar Kalita, Sr. ADO , Assam has participated and help in formulation of recommendations on management of agriculture. Dr. Harshajyoti Barooah, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam has chaired the workshop. Referring to the excellent effort of agricultural officers in case of coverage of Sali paddy during this year in the State, in spite of drought like situation with the help of farmers, the Assam Agriculture Minister Pramila Rani Brahma congratulated all the concerned agricultural officers and urged upon them to render all efforts to increase more production during this Rabi season. She participated in the open session of first biennial general conference of AAOA as chief guest and released the souvenir to mark the event. Mrigendra Kalita, Agriculture Secretary, Niroj Verma, Agriculture Secretary, Dr. Prasanta Kalita, Director, Agriculture, Assam and Dr. Harshajyoti Barooah, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam have participated in the open session of first biennial general conference of AAOA. Noted farmers Soneswar Konwar, Popular Film Director Timothy Das Hanse and Retd. Agriculture Officer Gonottam Chetia was felicitated in the conference by AAOA. 25 nos. of agriculture officers working in the department of Panchayat & Rural Development, Assam has joined in AAOA during the conference. 21 members of executive committee of AAOA, headed by Dr. Debabrata Gohain as President and Kailas Barman as General Secretary also selected in the conference.
