New pig breed registered

Doom, a native variety of pig of Assam has been registered as a breed with accession number  INDIA_PIG_0200_DOOM_09006 by the Breed Registration Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The Registration Certificate of the said breed of pig was presented to Dr. Galib Uz Zaman and Dr. SubimalLaskar Professors, Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati by Dr. Trilochan Mahapatro, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR in a function held on August 23, 2016 at Krishi Bhawan , New Delhi.

Huge response to tractor mela in Biswanath

The two day long Tractor Mela, organised by Agriculture Department in Biswanath concluded on Monday with encouraging response. Assam joined the World Food Day on Monday commemorating the founding of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 1945. Agri officials asked to take steps to combat army worms

The agriculture department steps up measures to firmly deal with the army worms which wreak huge havocs in many parts of the state. In a letter to District Agricultural Officers and other officials, the department said that army worms or swarming caterpillars have manifested in different areas of the State. Steps like deployment of spraying squads in affected areas have been directed. It said that sufficient plant protection chemicals like quinnolphos , chloropyriphos and malathon powder have been made available to all the affected districts. Health Camp for Flood Victims by Cottonian82

A health camp was organised by "Cottonian82" , an organisation of the alumni of Cotton College of 1982 batch, in association with KGMT Hospital, under Kuntal Goswami Memorial Trust, Mother Teresa Road, Guwahati,  at Mayong on 20th August, 2017 for flood affected people.   The camp get response from around 300 villagers from Mayong and nearby villages.  Specialist from different field gave counselling to the villagers along with free medicines.
