MAJONI scheme launced in Sivasagar

MAJONI a scheme for the girl child under the Assam Bikash Yojuana of Government of Assam was launched yesterday(27-02-09)in Sivasagar by Pranab Gogoi, Hon'ble Minister, Sericulture, Handloom & Textiles and Law, Assam. Under this scheme all new born girl child will get a fixed deposit of Rs. 5000/- on her birth and the same can be en-cashed by the girl child on attainment of 18 years of her age.

Normal life was affected in Sivasagar district bandh on Monday with the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) calling an 12-hour Sivasagar Bandh from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. to protest killing of an innocent youth in Tingalibam Tea Estate by the army.The army has ordered a court of inquiry into the matter. Mr. Pranab Gogoi, Minister of Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture and Law, Govt. of Assam inagurated the 30 beded Sivasagar town health centre on Sunday. The centre is also known as Sivasagar Civil Hospital (Wood Dispensry) earlier and this hospital is shifted to Joysagar a few years back. But today this is inagurated for the greater interest of the people of Sivasagar town as town health centre. Zikir artist and social activist Karimuddin Ahmed of Sivasagar received the Bokul Bon Award today by the Bokul Bon Nyakh and Jorhat Sahitya Sabha. The 3rd Desang festival starts from February 6 for 3(three) days with many colorful events. The festival is organised by the people of Desangmukh along with the district administration. The festival is held on the beautiful white riverine beach of the river Desang.
