With the announcement of Panchayat election dates by the State Election Commission, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the village panchayat areas under the two regional panchayats of Nazira and Amguri in Nazira Subdivision, which fall under four Zila Parishads.
In this regard, a press conference was held today in the conference hall of the Nazira Subdivision Commissioner’s office. The Subdivisional Commissioner of Nazira, Mrs. Kanika, briefed the media about the steps taken to ensure a free and fair Panchayat election in the region.
During the press conference, the Subdivisional Commissioner informed that the total number of voters in Nazira Subdivision for this election stands at 157,669, including 77,438 male voters and 80,231 female voters.
For the Panchayat elections, a total of 280 polling stations will be set up across 27 village panchayats in Nazira. As per the announcement by the State Election Commission, the first phase of the Panchayat elections in Nazira Subdivision will be held on May 2, with voting scheduled from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The counting of votes will commence on May 11 from 8:00 AM onwards.
The nomination process will begin on April 3 and continue until April 11, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 12, and the list of valid candidates will be published on the same day. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by April 17 (until 3:00 PM), after which the final list of contesting candidates will be announced.
The expenditure limit for candidates has been set as follows:

₹25,000 for village panchayat members,

₹2,50,000 for regional panchayat members, and

₹10,00,000 for Zila Parishad members.
It is noteworthy that the Panchayat election voting process will be conducted using ballot papers this time.
