The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.
NAMRUP: People thronged in thousands on the National Highway No 37 in Moran demanding capital punishment of Rajen Hardi whom police have arrested a week after he allegedly raped and killed a minor in Tiloi. With banners and play cards local residents in large number blocked the busy road in between Sivasagar and Dibrugarh at 11 in the morning for more than 2 hours to mount pressure on the authorities to send the culprit to the gallows.
