MARGHERITA: Despite a stepped up counter insurgency operations a section of Naga rebels has been unleashing terror along in the form of extortion along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The Assam Rifles jawans on Tuesday held a hardcore NSCN(K) rebel during an operation in Ledo who has been extorting money from a section of people in the area.

Acting on a tip off, the army jawans raised the Mullong Village where the rebel was arrested who was identified as Bishnu Bhujel.

A pistol along with a few rounds of live bullets was seized from his possession. Later, he was sent to the Ledo police station.

NRC verification process underway in BTAD

Kokrajhar: Only a few days are left to publish the NRC draft. Siang water not fit for consumption

KOKRAJHAR: The Assam Santhali Students Union on Tuesday staged dharna in Kokrajhar raising their demand for granting ST status. Nearly 200 Santhali students thronged Kokrajhar and staged a two hour long demonstration raising a slow of demands in front of Kokrajhar DC Office premises. Talking to Assam Times the protesting leaders said,"without ST status it would be difficult for them to progress. We want ST status to be uplifted. College girl kidnapped, killed in Guwahati

GUWAHATI:Yet another sensational murder case in Guwahati sends no less shock and anger across the state on Tuesday. The victim is a college girl who was kidnapped by a youth to be killed in his house in the heart of the city as she refused to be with him.
