Ravaging inferno in Namrup; 35 shops gutted
NAMRUP: Properties worth crores of rupees were reduced to ashes when the Daily Market in the BVFCL premises in Namrup caught fire on Friday.
The incident took place in the wee hours because of electric short circuit where at least 35 big and small shops were gutted in the huge fire.
Fire fighters from BVFCL, OIL, APL were deployed to bring the situation under control. But by then the inferno ravaged these 35 shops and stalls. Smokes are still bellowing from a number if shops.
The owner of the Rupkanya Stores,alone, claimed to have lost properties worth ₹45 lakh not yo speak of what the owners of Tarana Tailors claimed.
The real extent of damage, however, has yet to be ascertained. The police have been investigating the incident.

A huge herd of wild elephants unleashed no less reign of terror in a vast rural area in Namrup on Tuesday forcing the forest authority to step in. NAMRUP:Two back to back incidents have brewed no less trouble for the Namrup-based thermal power plant at a time when power shortage has been plauging the north east Indian state. The incidents in question took place in the thermal power replacement plant which BHEL started construction eight years back. A huge herd of wild elephants unleashed no less reign of terror in Jeypore area in Namrup destroying a house on Friday. Talking to Assam Times, local resident Bijoy Gowala, whose house was damaged said,”we came to see the elephants forcing us to flee from the house at around 6 in the evening. Later, we have seen that these animals have left the spot damaging our house.”
