APCU demands steps to protect journos

The All Assam Press Correspondent Union has expressed grave concern over the repeated killing of scribes in the country and has demanded measures to ensure their safety and security. 

In a statement issued in Namrup, president Manoj Singh, working president Mausum Jyoti Baishya and chief secretary Hemanta Saikia said the journalist fraternity has hardly any safety and security if these repeated incidents of attacks on the scribes in the country are to be believed. 

They said ten journos namely Sudip Dutta , Hari Prakash , Brojesh Kumar Singh , Shyam Sarmah , Kamlesh Jain , Hubindar Singh Rana , Gauri Lankesh ,Shantanu Bhoumik , J.J. Singh , and Rajesh Mishra were killed within a short spell of period.

Namrup:  Santak Army Camp  of DAO Division and Assam Police arrested three NSCN(R) cadres from Halwating in Sivsagar District on Wednesday.  The arrested tri are Youngai (39), Pendum (42) and Nang Sung (35) - all resident of  Mokokchung, Nagaland. Namrup: On the occasion of the International Youth Day, Maibella Army Camp under the aegis of Dao Division took up an initiative in the Santok area to make the youth aware and educate them. Namrup: Army DAO Division apprehended a NSCN (K) cadre at Namtola in Dibrugarh district on Saturday night. The cadre is identified as Sgt Maj Akhat Konyak of NSCN (K) of Mon district of Nagaland. Army seized extortion notes, mobile phone along with incriminating document. After interrogation, it is revealed that he has been actively involved in the extortion activities in Mon district of Nagaland. The cadre was later on handed over to Sonari police.
NAMRUP :-  Joysagar Army Camp under Dao Division has been carring out continuous rescue and relief operations in the flood hit region of Sivsagar district in Upper Assam. Combined rescue teams of army and civil administration through their due efforts rescued hundreds of beleaguered villagers including livestocks.The Desang and Dikhowriver in Upper Assam continues to flow above the danger mark , thereby flooding vulnerable low lying areas along the  course of the river. NAMRUP: In a bid to hone the skills of budding photographers a two day long photography workshop concluded here in Namrup BVFCL officers club on Sunday. The workshop organised by Twinkle Weddings team was attended by around 40 participants which was graced as resource person by Senior Photographer , and General Secretary of All Assam Photography Association,Ashwini Barkataki .The workshop was conducted with an aim of tapping the talent of the   upcoming generation in the field. NAMRUP:  The Namtola Police and Sonari Army Camp under DAO Division in a joint operation apprehended one ULFA (I) Linkman from Namtola area on Friday. Acting on a tip-off the security forces carried out an opeartion and swooped on one Romen Borgohain(34) son of Tarun Borgohain a resident of Hathi Camp under Namtola police station in Charaideo district. Nine live rounds of ammunition of 7.65mm calibre and 11gm Brown sugar were also recovered from the possession of the ultra. The militant revealed that  he was involved in supply of drugs to various insurgent cadres along with collectong extortion money.

NAMRUP: The Maibella army camp under the aegis of DAO Division organised a summer sports workshop of football and athletics for the children of the Mathurapur Higher Secondary School of Charaideo. The workshop is being conducted with the aim of promoting sports  and nurturing the habit of healthy living among the younger generation.
