The Lokashevak Haladhar Bhuyan's 118th birth anniversary is planned to be celebrated on September 27 and 28 at his birth place at Tetelisara, Kampur town in Nagaon district. He was a renowned freedom fighter and the brain behind the foundation of Sankar Mission Eye Hospital of Nagaon district. He was also one of the founder of Sankar Sangha in Assam. Bhuyan's birth anniversary is likely to be attended by the Governor of Assam, Siv Charan Mathur and a host of other delegations.

Another rape attempt in Khetri, 1 held

JAGIROAD: Amid an escalating shock and anger over the rape and murder incident in Nagaon, the Khetri police in Morigaon district caught a youth for trying to molest a minor girl on Monday. The incident took place at Kahikuchi near the National Highway No 37 on Sunday evening when the Class VI girl was forcibly taken away to a place by a local youth who raped her and left away. NAGAON: People thronged in thousands at Nehrubali in Nagaon town demanding Justice for the minor girl in Dhing whom three miscreants gangraped and burnt alive two days back. The entire gathering demanded immediate arrest of the main culprit Zakir Hussain, who is still on the run while two other arrested perpetrators are juvenile. Speakers after speakers in the crowd demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators saying that this measure is the only way to firmly deal with these raising cases of rape and murder. NAGAON: Amid an escalating shock and anger an irate mob vandalized the residence of Zakir Hussain a day after he led the gang who raped and burnt alive a minor girl at Lalung gaon in Batadrawa on Friday. Local residents in large number thronged the house of Zakir in search of him and vandalised the house where his family lives in forcing the security men to step in. Gangrape and murder rerun in Nagaon

NAGAON: In yet another bizarre incident, miscreants burnt alive a minor girl after being gangraped in Nagaon district sending huge shock and anger across the state on Friday. The gruesome incident took place in Bordua where the miscreants in Dhaniabheti gaon gangraped the minor girl inside her home in the absence of her parents and later set her on fire by pouring kerosene and fled. Later local residents came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital where she was declared brought dead. Dacoit hurt in police firing, dead

RAHA:An infamous robber died in Nagaon hours after he sustained injury as he was trying to escape police during an operation on Friday. Two of his associates were captured.The incident took place in the wee hours at Mohghuli area where a gang of dacoits was trying to strike forcing the police to step in. Police captured two of them while others fled and one of them was shot at as police opened fire at him for trying to escape in the wee hours.Identified as Ramjan Ali, he was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries in the morning. RAHA , March 13 :  The 12 hr Assam Bandh called by Tribal organisations of Assam  from 5 am today in protest against the government's failure to fill up vacant posts reserved for Scheduled Tribes ended  in the evening heavily affecting the normal life in Raha.
