PAC sets 5-day deadline for investigation into Pravish Chanam’s death

The alleged silence maintained by the Manipur government over the most sensational death of Pravish Chanam has been condemned by the People Action Committee (PAC) and student organisations threatening to take up a series of agitations over the case.  

On Tuesday, PAC in collaboration with different student bodies organised a press meet at Uripok Achom Leikai wherein the Biren Singh government was disapproved, accusing it of keeping a tight-lipped over the youth’s killing case. 

The people of the state have apparently felt a surge of anxiety over the frequent reports of mysterious deaths of Manipuri youths in mainland India in the last two months. 

A resident of Imphal West’s Uripok, Chanam Pravish, 23, was found missing and later was found dead in Noida and whose body was cremated without informing his family members in September. 

“We demand the Manipur government to reveal its clear-cut stance on the case  within five days,” said PAC convenor A Pholen. 

He condemned the state government for allegedly failing to take any step to facilitate investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of Pravish Chanam. 

President of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), M Angamba expressed dismay over the government’s inability to hunt any clue in the case of Pravish Chanam. 

“Sending merely a state police officer to Uttar Pradesh and keeping mum for so long will not help anything,” Angamba said. 

He reiterated the demand of a CBI probe into the case and expressed resentment against the state government for allegedly unwilling to initiate any action in this regard till today.   

Angamba demanded that the Manipur government send a ministerial team soon to UP to persuade the authorities there to expedite the case. 

Besides the case of Chanam Pravish, cases of Taorem Bitoo, 32, resident of Khoyathong Polem Leikai in Imphal West, who went missing from Delhi’s Masti Park since September 13, and 25-year-old Jacinta from Manipur who was killed while fighting with bag snatchers in Delhi in August and Siddarth Moirangthem son of former minister’s death in August in Delhi, are yet to be solved.

7 hurt in clash over land in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 16 (NENA): Seven villagers were injured, one of them seriously, after violent clash erupted between two groups at L Tangnaum (Harapthel) village under Sapormeina Police Station over an ongoing land dispute on Saturday. Attack on Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong

IMPHAL: Manipur on Saturday averted a Chandel district like militant attack when a group of rebels made an abortive attempt on an Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong. New step to promote Manipur tourism
