Durga puja festivity grips Namrup along with other parts of the country with industrial town dressing afresh amid dew drops and fragrance of season flowers.

Shops and malls in the town, known for thermal power and fertilizer plants, are teeming with the people who are buying clothes and other materials during the Durga puja, the occasion to worship thr goddess of strength. 

Places like BVFCL  Daily Market  Puja Mandap , Nagadolong Puja Mandap , Sector ( B) Durga Mandir , Dillighat , Dillibagan , Salibasa , Namrup Sarmah Tiniali , Namrup tea Estate , Hapjan , Kumari Mandir start throbbing with the sounds of dhakis to welcome the presiding deity. 

The administration has made elaborate arrangement to ensure peace and normalcy during the five day long festival which begins on Saturday. Talking to Assam Times,  Namrup Police Station Officer Incharge Chandan Milli Said " Thus time altogether 20 Puja pendals are lined up on thr occasion. The cultural functions are restricted beyond  10 pm . Same restriction is applicable in the case of unauthorised liquor shops and gambling.” 

“We have received a slew of instructions and have  kept the volunteers on maximum alert.  Fire fighters are also  ready. In fact, we will ensure peace and normalcy,” he said. 

On the other hand, the Durga Puja pendal in  Namrup sector (B) temple is celebrating its golden jubilee, being one of the oldest organizing committee.

The Namrup Nagadolong  Puja pendal is trying to retain the pride of being the best one in Namrup Since it received the award for the last two consecutive years.

People in the Namrup daily bazar paid their homage to the Pulwama martyrs.  The programme was organsied by daily bazaar shop keepers assoctiation and local people of the area.
The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.
The Namrup regional unit of All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) organsied protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by blocking the road and burning tyers at Sonari tiniali. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the state and central governments exibiting play card "Kendriya Government Hai Hai, Raijya Sarkar Murdabad, Mukhyamantri kam nai". More than one hundred AASU activists and local people took part in the protest.
The year long Golden Jubilee of Namrup Sahitya Sabha is coming to an end with various cultural programmes. The programme was inagurated by working president Satrasingh Deuri. Seminar, poetry, cultural night, Book release were part of the event.
Namrup: AASU regional Committee observed the Swahid Divas on Monday with hosting of flag in Namrup Sonari Tiniali Swahid Mandap by regional committee president Kalpajit Gogoi. Assam Jatiyata Badi Yuba chatra Parishad , Namrup Tai Ahom Student Union  ,  Fertiliser Workers Union , Fertiliser  Swarmik Union , Gramya Unnayan Sangha etc and schools  and colleges representative took part in the event.
Polling concluded peacefully in the  three  panchayats - Kachari Pathar, Namrup and Santipur Panchayat - with 75 percent voter turnout. Situation became tense when more than 50 voters were deprived from voting in Santipur.

The largest ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya (known to be the wife of Surya), Chhath Puja is unique to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the country of Nepal. It is the only Vedic festival that is dedicated to the Sun God. The festival was celebrated in Namrup and it's neighbouring area with flavours on Tuesday.  
Namrup: There was total bandh in Namrup during the Assam Bandh called by 46 organisations in the state opposing citizenship amendment Bill 2016. Protesters burnt tyres in BVFCL Main Gate,  Sonari Tiniali, Namghar Chariali, Salibasa. Marketing complex, Schools, colleges, Government and private offices, Banks were all closed during the bandh.
