Nungba JAC calls off NH-37 shutdown

The indefinite Imphal-Jiribam highway shutdown call given by the Nungba Area Joint Action Committee was called off on Friday after reaching an agreement with authority of Manipur Health Services. 

The shutdown was called off at 2 pm after officials of the Health Services met with the JAC representatives and agreed to their demands. 

In the meeting the officials assured the agitating JAC to meet their pressing demand of addressing the problem of shortage of doctors and other staff at Nungba Community Health Centre.   

Vehicular movement on Imphal-Jiribam road, NH-37 section at Nungba and the stretch from Barak to Khongshang had remained disrupted due to the indefinite shutdown call given by the Nungba Area Joint Committee to push for its demands from 5 pm of August 30. 

In the meantime, the 48-hour hill areas bandh imposed by the All Manipur Border area Development Association (AMBADA) to protest the recent state cabinet decision on the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) crippled life for the second consecutive day in the hill districts on Friday. 

The association kicked off the bandh on midnight of August 30. Traffic along the highways that snake through the hills remained disrupted due to the bandh. No untoward incidents were reported in the course of the strike.    

Normal activities of Indo-Myanmar trade at border town Moreh were affected for the second consecutive day as bandh supporters continued to block vehicles movement on Imphal-Moreh, National Highway 102. 

The association is protesting against the July 14 cabinet meeting’s decision to allow scheme costing upto Rs 5 lakh (in place of the existing Rs 20 lakh in general) to the village authority in alleged contravention of the Central government’s guidelines implemented in 17 states, including Manipur. 

AMBADA has submitted a memorandum to the Secretary, Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking redressal against the move by the state government. 

It has urged the department for cancellation of the Manipur Cabinet Meeting Resolution-IV dated 14 July, 2017, saying the resolution is against the Centre’s guidelines and rights of the land owners.

7 hurt in clash over land in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 16 (NENA): Seven villagers were injured, one of them seriously, after violent clash erupted between two groups at L Tangnaum (Harapthel) village under Sapormeina Police Station over an ongoing land dispute on Saturday. Attack on Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong

IMPHAL: Manipur on Saturday averted a Chandel district like militant attack when a group of rebels made an abortive attempt on an Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong. New step to promote Manipur tourism
