A forest official along with two security personnel sustained injury during a massive eviction drive in the outskirt of Guwahati city on Friday.
From early in the morning a huge eviction team led by Kamrup Deputy Commissioner reached the Amching reserved forest area and evicted many illegal settlers where the evicted people had an altercation with the forest officials.
The evicted people divided in a number of groups and pelted stones at the evictors. A forest official and a CRPF jawan sustained injury as the angry evicted people pelted stones at them.
Five excavators and seven elephants were deployed in the drive apart from 200 staff and security guards.
Later, the Gauhati High Court stayed the eviction till September 18 much to a major respite for the settlers.

Creating more fear among the COVID-19 panic-stricken people, an earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude on Richter Scale shook Assam and some parts of the NE India today morning. The tremor was felt at 7.52am followed by atleast two aftershocks.
No major loss is reported so far. As per the National Center for Seismology under the Ministry of Earthscience, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.4 on Richter Scale. “It was really a big”, said Dr. Geeta Dutta, in her facebook post. The epicenter of the massive quake was in the Sonitpur district,Assam at the depth of 10 km.

Security forces have rescued two abducted ONGC officials from Nagaland last night. Sources revealed that the officials were rescued in a joint operation carried out by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles in a populas area of the Mon district. The outlawed ULFA(I) has kidnapped three ONGC officials from the Lakuwa rig. Among the three two were rescued, security forces claimed. The rescued officials are identified as Alakesh Saikia and Moni Mohan Gogoi. Security Forces also recovered an AK 47 rifle during the operation. They keep the operation to rescue the other abducted.

Amidst the Coronavirus scare, a group of armed people has, reportedly, abducted three ONGC officials from its oil rig in Lakuwa, Sivasagar last night. As per reports, the abducted have been identified as Ritul Saikia, Titabor, Mohini Mohan Gogoi, Sivasagar and Alakesh Saikia of Jorhat. After receiving the information, the police have launched investigation.
Mentionable is that the ULFA(I) abducted two officials of an oil company a few months earlier and released them just a few days ago.
