GPC demands COVID Vaccination for all journalists

The Gauhati Press Club has urged State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as well as the Health Department to provide COVID-19 vaccines to all journalists irrespective of their ages due to the deterioration of the pandemic situation . In a statement signed by Manoj Nath and Sanjoy Ray, the president and general secretary of the Press Club, respectively has said that a number of journalists across the country already has succumbed to the deadly virus infection.  “ At the outset, let us express our sincere gratitude to you(Health Minister) and the Health and Family Welfare department for facilitating a vaccine camp for media persons above 45 years of age.

However, with the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic getting intense than ever, the Gauhati Press Club feels that it is high time that journalists of all age-groups were provided COVID vaccine before it is too late.” the statement added.

The statement also said, “ Already, over the past one year, we have lost dozens of journalists due to COVID-19, the latest being senior journalists like Nilakshi Bhattacharya, Aiyushman Dutta and Rohit Sardana.

It goes without saying that media organizations, especially journalists, have been working relentlessly since the outbreak of the pandemic thereby ensuring flow of credible information at the time of crisis, without even bothering about the safety of their own lives."
