Marginal let up in Kokrajhar flood
There seems some let up in the flood situation in Kokrajhar district on Monday where six people died snd nearly 1 lakh rendered homeless.
The water level of the major rivers seems to have shown a receding trend from the afternoon and if this trend continues, the flood waters would recede gradually.
But many relief camps are said to have fallen short of materials to accommodate the affected people who were evacuated to the relief camps'. The Patgaon relief camp inmates have alleged insufficient relief materials during the last three days.
The authority have set up 39 relief camps to operate in the three-subdivisions in the district for 45,759 inmates. In the recent flood, altogether 168 villages reportedly submerged that affected 1, 24,443 peoples with damaging 24,445 hectares of crops. The flood washed away and damaged seven roads in the district.
Sufficient medical teams have been deployed in the flood affected areas. The district administration said the flood victims’ family members would get the ex gratia very soon.

KOKRAJHAR: Police arrested five protesters in Kokrajhar on Wednesday who burnt effigies of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.
Activists and members from All Assam Nath Yogi Students Union carried out a protest demonstration along the JD Road near District Computer centre in Kokrajhar against the CAB bill and burnt effigies of Sonowal and Sarma. The protestors staged protest demonstration with shouting slogans demanding early withdrawal of the bill.
The protestors violated CrPC 144 clamp in the district", said a senior police officer.

KOKRAJHAR: An eight-member delegation of a special review committee on detention center, led by chairman Debojit Mukherjee visited the detention center in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.
The delegation members include Debojit Mukherjee, deputy inspector of police (Border) and chairman of the committee, district judge (retired) H Singh, IGP of Prisons Barnali Sharma, D Saikia, AIG of Prisons and several senior police officials.
There are 142 inmates including 14 minors are kept in the Kokrajhar detention center.
