Woman murdered in Raha

A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night.

Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach  of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat.

During the investigation by police, it was discovered that nothing was looted from the house, which led them to suspect a personal dispute as the reason. The husband of the woman was not at home when the murder took place, neighbours said.

According to police, the accused of the murder Nitul Saikia , an youth aged about 35 and a neighbor of the deceased woman, fled from the spot after committing the crime. 

Meanwhile, search operation is on to nab the accused and further investigation into the matter is underway.

Road mishap kills two

Two men  died on the spot after the Bajaj Pulsar bike (AS15D-4296)   they were riding on reportedly hit a parked trailer vehicle on NH 37 at Raha on Thursday morning at around 3.30 am.  The deceased identified as Bidyut Saikia (23), a resident of Tulashimukh , Nagaon and Nipan Bhagawati (26), of Koroioni Bamungaon, Barhampur, Nagaon were on their way to Nagaon from Guwahati when the accident took place.

Former CM Prafulla Mahanta, his son wounded in road accident

Former Assam AGP chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and his son Subham were injured in a road accident at Bebejia in Nagaon district on Tuesday evening. KMSS dharna in Raha

Hundreds of KMSS activists hit the roads in Raha on Monday alleging rampant corruption in NREGA, NFSA and IAY scheme. Hundreds of students of Raha college appearing for the BA fifth semester honors examinations under Guwahati University that commenced on Tuesday faced inconvenience at the examination hall as the college authority failed to supply them the question papers of five subjects. Raha TET teachers stage sit in protest

The TET teachers here today staged a three hour-long sit in protest in front of the Block Elementary Education Office, Kapili Bock, Raha demanding resolution to various issues faced by TET qualified teachers. Strike at Raha revenue circle

Along with rest of the state the work at the Raha Revenue Circle Office was paralysed today as mandals and kanungos here observing a ceasework, following the call given by the All Assam Mandal Kanungu Sanmilani in protest of their 14-point charter of demands not fulfilled by the government. The employees though attended in the office but refrained from duty which disheartened hundreds of people visited  the office today for various works. The strike which begins on Thursday will continue till December 11th next. The demands include hike in their salaries and better work environment.
