The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved an institute of Indian Agriculture Research Centre in Assam. Presided over by prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the meeting cleared the proposal to set  up the country’s premier institute at Gogamukh in Dhemaji bordering Arunachal Pradesh.

Sources in Dispur said that the Assam government had also proposed a huge plot of 587 acres in Gogamukh for the project. Many organizations in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts have thanked the state and Centre for clearing the decks.
