Kudos to Dr Bhupen Hazarika as he turns 83

Today is September 8, 2008. Assam is celebrating the 83rd birth day of music legendary music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika albeit the birthday boy is in Mumbai. Birthday wishes are pouring in for the pride of Assam and Dada Saheb Phalke award winning singer. Several organization on Monday are celebrating the day across the state.

A special screening of a documentary film on the life and works of, produced by Surjya Hazarika was held at the auditorium of the Assam Handloom and Textiles department office on Sunday. The documentary film titled Bihangam Drishtit Dr Bhupen Hazarika throws light on the life and works of the Phalke awardee.
Many eventful moments of Dr Hazarika’s life have been covered in the film. The English version if the film titled Dr Bhupen Hazarika: A Living Legend was screened at the St Adrews Hall of London south Gate in July last and won accolades from the viewers.

Sensation prevails on the busy Guwahati-Shillong road following bomb scare that forces senior police and civil officials to rush to Ganeshguri. Noted Gandhian Anna Hazare's civil society group seeks immediate release of two Akhil Gogoi who was arrestred by poliucxe on Friday. He further has demanded an apology from the Assam government for arresting the KMSS leader. Guwahati Press Club has expressed its anguish at the arrest of RTI activist Akhil Gogoi from its campus on June 24 at around 2.50 pm. It has already sent a protest letter to the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, stated in a release issued by press club secretary Nava Thakuria. Finally, police have arrested KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi in connection with the Dispur police firing on Wednesday. Gogoi was picked up by police from his Nizorapara based residence an hour before a press conference he was scheduled to addressed. Police on Thursday lodged complaint against Gogoi and his associates charging them with damaging properties worth crores of rupees and fomenting trouble where 4 persons were killed around 35 including 15 police men have been injured.
