Udalguri bandh on July 10

The Udalguri district committee of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) has called 12 hour Udalguri district bandh on July 10 demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the damaging the statue of great Indian freedom fighter Major Swahid Durga Malla at Khowrang in Udalguri district on the fateful night of Wednesday. This was made known to the media persons by the AAGSU Udalguri district committee.

It is to be noted that unidentified miscreants damaged the statue measuring about 15 feet in height by breaking the bronze figure of the Major Malla who was a devoted soldier of the Azad Hind Fouz who was later captured by the British army and was hanged to death .  The bronze statue of the martyr was installed at Khowrang by the Gorkha Development Council on August 25 in 2016. Meanwhile, Udalguri district committees of AAGSU,Assam Gorkha Sammelan, Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha ,BTAD Region Gorkha Sammelan, BTAD Region Gorkha Sammelan. AJYCP, ABSU,AKRSU condemned the cowardice act and public of Khowrang area demanded early apprehension of the miscreants behind such activities.

A herd of wild elephants created havoc in Rajapara area near the Indo-Bhutan border of Udalguri district on Monday morning last. Wild Tusker damaged the walls  and ate paddy stocks in the house of one Mahendra Deka.  Two other commercial shops at Nalapara chowk area were also damaged by the Tusker. A voter awareness rally was taken out at Tangla  today by Tangla College students, ASHA and Anganwadi workers with the help of Udalguri district administration. The rally was inagurated by Dimple Baruah, Assistant Commissoner Udalguri. Speaking to Assam Times, Baruah said that the awareness programme has been undertaken under Systematic Voters Electoral Education Programme (SVEEP) under the pursuance of Election Commission of India. The IQAC cell of Tangla College headed by its co-ordinator Satyen Sarma had introduced a three months "Functional Knowledge Certificate Course" on Spoken English , Internet Correspondence, Personality Development for 6th semester students of Tangla College. The inauguration ceremony of the same was held on February 18 at the college conference hall. Speaking on the ocassion Rajen Kalita former HOD Department of English mentioned the importance of English language in today's age of globalization. The members of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathon (AIMSS) Udalguri district committee took to streets today in protest of the attrocities on women and children. The silver jubilee celebration of Bandana Sangha Club concluded at Ratanpur on the outskirts of Tangla today.  The two day colourful programme began on February 13 at 9 am with the hoisting of flag by Deba Kumar Rabha president of silver jubilee celebration committee. Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Tangla and it's neighbouring places. Students rushed schools and colleges to offer their prayers and seek divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati.
