Udalguri bandh on July 10

The Udalguri district committee of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) has called 12 hour Udalguri district bandh on July 10 demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the damaging the statue of great Indian freedom fighter Major Swahid Durga Malla at Khowrang in Udalguri district on the fateful night of Wednesday. This was made known to the media persons by the AAGSU Udalguri district committee.

It is to be noted that unidentified miscreants damaged the statue measuring about 15 feet in height by breaking the bronze figure of the Major Malla who was a devoted soldier of the Azad Hind Fouz who was later captured by the British army and was hanged to death .  The bronze statue of the martyr was installed at Khowrang by the Gorkha Development Council on August 25 in 2016. Meanwhile, Udalguri district committees of AAGSU,Assam Gorkha Sammelan, Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha ,BTAD Region Gorkha Sammelan, BTAD Region Gorkha Sammelan. AJYCP, ABSU,AKRSU condemned the cowardice act and public of Khowrang area demanded early apprehension of the miscreants behind such activities.

The SSB jawans of 61 battalion nabbed six persons with 340 kg ganja (cannabis) and 251 bottles of liquor from the Arunachal- Assam border jungle area on Sunday. They have also seized a Wagon R car (AS-27, 6492) when they found the 251 bottles of liquor being taken illegally.
