AASU demands eviction of drugs, wine and gambling at Kalaigaon

The AASU Kalaigaon anchalik committee has demanded immediate eviction of all illegal gambling (teer and dice) and wine vendors in and around Kalaigaon town.An AASU delegation had met Sadhana Hojai,Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri on July 4 and submitted a memorandum regarding the eviction of illegal and anti social activities at Kalaigaon.

AASU leaders alleged that illegal gambling (teer and dice) and free availability of wine (both IMFL and local) have demaged the peaceful academic and social atmosphere of the locality. Because of illegal wine and gambling trade,school and college going students have been attracted to drugs,gambling and wine,not to speak of farmers, workers, employees etc.The AASU leaders also alleged that all the illegal activities have been running under the very nose of police.It needs mention that most of the youths of the locality,mostly school dropouts have been badly addicted to drugs,wine and gambling causing social degradation. Youths addicted to drugs, wine and gambling have started theft as the source of money for obtaining drugs and wine.Such a case occurred in the night of July 1 at Kalaigaon town, when miscreants committed burglary at three family houses at No.2 Kalaigaon looting ornaments and clothing worth lakhs of amount within the distance of just a km from Kalaigaon police station,Kalaigaon Army and SSB camps.

In a joint operation,Udalguri police and 210 Cobra BN apprehended one Anowar Hussain and recovered two Chinese made grenades from his possession at Mazbat in Udalguri district today on August 9. Good news for the peasant fraternity.  Over 45,000 farmers across the State have been covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif-2017 season. Among those who registered for the scheme, there were also over 1,700 non-loanee farmers as well. Over 29,400 hectares of land have been covered under the scheme. Ahu (autumn) paddy, Sali (winter) paddy, jute and black gram crops are the notified crops to have been covered under PMFBY during the Kharif-2017 season.
