ULFA(I) militant gunned down in Udalguri
A self styled sergeant major of ULFA(I) was gunned down in an encounter with security forces at Nalkhamra chuburi in Sunanaipara village, Udalguri on Thursday noon. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched by the Army and the police where the militant was gunned down in an exchange of fire with the security forces. A 9 mm pistol, six rounds of live ammunition, magazine, one hand grenade, cash amounting to Rs.6,10,370/- were recovered from the encounter site. Identified as Ramesh Bora the militant was the deputy of another hardcore ULFA(I) militant Rajan Deka.

The Udalguri police held a youth on Wednesday for allegedly trying to extort money from a doctor. Identified as Dipankar Bora allegedly money from Udalguri Civil Hospital physician Dr. Bhagirath Dey who lodged a complaint with the police. They allegedly demanded money along with his accomplice Gusafang Basumatari in the name of a banned militant outfit. They threatened to kidnap his son for not paying Rs. 2,20,00.
