Youth dies in shocking mishap

A 30 year old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Chapormukh railway station on Thursday morning forcing police to institute an enquiry to ascertain the causes.

Identified as Zaikul Hussain, the body of the local resident of the neighbouring Nelipar village was found just near the railway tracks immediately after the Jansatabdi Express had crossed the station in the morning.

He was believed to have slipped from the train as he was trying to board. But policemen who took the body into their custody are probing into whether he was pushed by somebody inside the train.

Talking to Assam Times, Chapormukh Railway police station office in charge Lakhi Kalita said,  "We rushed to the spot after receiving information and took custody of the body. The body was identified by some locals of Nelipar area.We are trying to ascertain whether he missed a footing while trying to get off the moving train or slipped from the door by accident or was pushed from the train by someone.”

A Bangladeshi immigrant illegally residing in Amlokhi village under Batadrava Police Station, Nagaon was apprehended on Sunday midnight at around 12.15 a.m, a police official said. Acting on a tip-off,a police team led by Rajib Baruah, Officer in-command of Batadrava Police Station,arrested the Bangladeshi who was declared as foreigner by the Nagaon District Foreigners Tribunal on 2007. The foreigner, identified as Sarif uddin who migrated to Assam after 1971,was sent to the Foreigners Detention Camp in Tezpur, the sources added.

Nagaon police arrested one notorious Rhino poacher in a successful operation on Sunday afternoon. The poacher was identified as Rafiqul Islam (32), son of Abul Kasem of Hatipara Village, Rupahihat.  A joint police team of Rupahihat and Juria Police Station apprehended the poacher from Juria Sutirpar area. Police also recovered 15 live bullets of .303 Rifle and a silencer muzzle from the backyard of his house which was hidden underground.  The arrested poacher Rafiqul was allegedly involved in many cases of rhino poaching. At least 2,200 chickens were burnt to death when a major fire broke out at a poultry farm at Gaspara of Raha in Nagaon district.Local people rushed out of their houses and initiated the work to extinguish the flames but could not save any of the birds. KrishnaNath, a resident of Gaspara, who owns the poultry farm saw his entire poultry farm going up in flames on saturday night. Although the owner including some locals succeeded in dousing the fire within half an hour but went in vain as all the birds were dead by then. One motorcyclist died on the spot  and another Critically injured in a road accident on the Nagaon-Dhing road near Bhetiani, Batadrava on Saturday afternoon. The accident took place when a mni Van carrying fish hit a speeding motorcycle on the Nagaon dhing road. Batadrava Police identified the deceased as Maharuddin of Jarabari, Dumdumia and the critically injured one as Alaluddin of Dhing Rajabari. In a tragic accident that occurred on National Highway 36 near Gastol of Kathiatoli, Nagaon district on Friday noon, one Laku Barkakoti of Kathiatoli was died on the spot when his motorcycle rammed by a speedy bus. The mishap occurred as the man on motorcycle was driving in the wrong side. Kathiatoli Police rushed to the spot and sent Laku's body to BP Civil Hospital, Nagaon for postmortem.Police impounded the bus. The driver of the bus managed to flee from the spot.

Sensation prevailed in Itakhulighat village of Dolonghat, near to Jajori, Nagaon on Tuesday evening following the rescue of an injured leopard cat by the villagers. A group of villagers spotted the male leopard lying injured in the backyard of Noor Islam's house, a resident of Itakhulighat Village and immediately admitted it to a nearest Veterinary Sub centre for treatment. The leopard Cat has severe injuries on his neck. The forest personnel from Morigaon has taken over the the animal and providing necessary treatment. The leopard cat was later sent to Morigaon and to sent to Guwahati zoo.
