AASAA holds mass conglomeration
The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) Udalguri district unit on Sunday held a mass gathering programme at Sikari Bungalow Don Bosco school playground near Tangla on Saturday.
The programme aimed at creating awareness among Adivasi masses against the alleged discrimination of the government as well as the tea company owners in increasing wages to Rs.330,allotment of land pattas to tea garden labours,schedule tribe status of Adivasis among others was presided over by Rabiram Baske and attended by Pradeep Nag, president CEC AASAA, Rajen Horo vice-president CEC AASAA AASAA workers of Udalguri, Dhubri along with representatives of the All Adivasi Women’s Association of Assam,Munda Sahitya Sabha, Kurukh Sahitya Sabha among others.
Addressing the gathering of nearly 500 people Pradeep Nag said," It is quite an irony that despite Adivasi community being one of the indigenious and primitive people,we have been exploited in every spheres,our socio-economic development hindered. "
Lashing out at media and government agencies the student leader said that "Our community has faced identity crisis as instead of being addressed as Adivasi we are forcefully being labelled as tea tribe and ex-tea tribe community. He condemned use of such terms on mere ground of the community's engagement in tea gardens. Hailing the recently held tripartite talks for granting ST status to six communities. The student leader expressed his gratitude saying thay this was the first time Adivasi National Convention were given special priority and separately held talks . Nag however warned of launching strong protest if the government through its daily dillying tactics fails to fulfill the aspiration of Adivasi people who have voted for the saffron party in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

TANGLA: In a tragic incident, a mother and her son got electrocuted by unauthorized electric cable laid by villagers to deter the wild elephants at Majuligrant village along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri on Sunday morning.
