Baukhungri festival to kick off on Wednesday

5th Baukhungri Festival is going to start with three-days colourful programme at Harinaguri, 10km east of Kokrajhar town along the Baukhungri Hill in Kokrajhar district from Wednesday.

All kinds of preparations have so far completed this evening at the festival venue.The venue has been look decorated with beautiful designs besides stalls for indigenous food are also installed in the festival. A multi-community cultural demonstration has also been organised in the festival.

 The Baukhungri festival is the biggest festival in BTAD,which has been organised by Tourism department of BTC. The festival has been organised to mark the last day of Choitra month(April 14) as the Bodos traditionally celebrate the festival as Baukhungri Hajw Gakhwnai (climbing of Baukhungri Hill).

 BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary will inaugurate the festival on Wednesday at 8 am in the morning followed various programmes in the festival, apart from adventure sports like indigenous games like Khomlainai (Bodo wrestling) and cock-fighting and traditional cuisine from all over the region.

 Cultural troupe and stalls from neighbouring Bhutan country has so far arrived in Kokrajhar to participate in the festival.

‘Over lakh peoples are expected to be participated in the three-day festival programme scheduled where different programmes are to be organised’, said a member of the Organising Committee. He said that the Baukhungri festival is a biggest of Bodoland region,especially on the eve of Bwisagu where peoples from all walks of life participates with great enthusiastic moment.

‘The Baukhungri, itself have a historical based on its beautiful scene sustaining with natural look.The festival has been organising every year by BTC Tourism department to explore the tourism as well event step among the society’, he added.
