In a bid to spread the importance of sanitation and cleanliness among the masses and targeting to achieve PM Modi's vision of ‘Clean India’ by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The Udalguri district administration under the aegis of District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC) Udalguri organised a day long Swachhata Mela 2017 at Udalguri DC office Parade ground on Wednesday.
The programme which iniated with Swachhata Mela flag hoisting by Lwmshrao Daimari EM (PHE) BTC was followed by inauguration of Photo Exhibition gallery by Rihon Daimari State Minister PHED . An open session was also held where Lwmshrao Daimari inaugurating the session delivered the welcome speech.
Speaking on the open session Rihon Daimari questioned why do we need to wait till 2019 . Our state must achieve PM Modi's vision of ‘Clean India’ by October 2, 2017. Daimari further added that each and every individual starting from the campus of their home ,locality should forward their footsteps for a clean and green nation .
"Fresh air,potable drinking water and a clean and sanitated society free from polythene is what we are thriving for the sucess of Swaach Bharat Abhiyan" ,Daimari added. The ' Role of media' was also discussed where journalists Ram Upadhay ,Dipen Deka divulged the importance role played by media in spreading the meszage of cleanliness and sanitation.
The programme which was attended by people from all walks of life was also attended by Tridip Daimari Speaker BTC,Suresh Tanti MCLA ,Maheswar Boro MLA among others. Cultural troops representing Bodo,Gorkha,Assamese community also performed on the ocassion.
